What is Contemplative Yoga?

Contemplative Yoga is not exercise.  Rather, this gentle, restorative style of yoga provides all of the benefits of exercise without the strain and tension that exercise creates.  In a Contemplative Yoga class or in Yoga Therapy, instead of pushing, pulling, forcing, and straining your body, you experience a release of the deepest tensions in the core of your body, along your spine.

Each class or therapeutic session begins with the gentle release of the deepest layers of tension in the strong muscles that wrap around your spine. This opening provides corresponding release in other muscles throughout your body.  You will be able to feel, in your own body, the ways in which this release of tension literally creates space for internal organs, alleviates physical aches and pains, and contributes to greater vitality and mental clarity.

How to Choose a Yoga Teacher

To choose a yoga teacher wisely, check the certifcations. Some certifications require only a few days of study. Others require 200 to 500 hours of training. Individual schools certify their teachers as well as Yoga Alliance. You can ask to see your teacher’s certifications and verify them with the appropriate agencies.  Kim is registered with Yoga Alliance though not listed on their website.  She will be happy to show you her certification if requested.

Many certifications require continuing education, you can also check with schools and certifiying agencies to see if you teacher has kept up with his or her continuing education.

A teacher’s commitment to his or her practice and education is a commitment to the quality of your experience.
